Lotus Evora

The first all-new Lotus since the iconic Elise made its debut in 1995, the Evora enters the sports car market as the world’s only mid-engine 2+2. Powered by a Lotus-tuned 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 276 hp, and weighing just 2,976 lbs. (prototype specification), the Evora promises breathtaking performance.

The Evora offers a more refined ownership experience than Lotus’s existing smaller four-cylinder models with a contemporary, hand-crafted and elegantly trimmed cabin and an equipment list including such high-tech features as an advanced touch-screen multi-media system incorporating a state-of-the-art Alpine
satellite navigation and audio system.

HETHEL
(United Kingdom): Lotus Evora, launched for the UK market, is to hit the Malaysian market by end of next month, says Proton managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Mohamed Tahir.

He said Proton was awaiting the next batch of Lotus Evora before "we are ready for the launch".

Saying that the company has not decided on the price, he did not deny that Lotus Evora will be higher than STG50,000 (RM265,000) price in the UK.

"This is due to Malaysia's higher tax structure than in the UK. We've yet to finalise the price, we're still
working on it. We'll try to make it as competitive as in the UK market.

"We're still working with the government besides looking at the price structure," he told a press conference at the Lotus headquarters here yesterday.

The press conference was held in conjunction with the two-day visit to Lotus from Monday by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Lotus Evora, originally developed under a project called "Project Eagle", was launched at the British Motor Show in July 2008.

The car
is bigger than other Lotus models like Elise and Exige, with 160mph top speed and the power to move from 0-60mph in less than five seconds.

Asked on the global strategic partner which he mentioned in his speech at a dinner on Monday night, Syed Zainal declined to elaborate, saying it was too early to make an announcement.

"The discussions not only involved
Volkswagen but also Mitsubishi and Renault to look into collaborations in a few areas, namely engine and component parts.

"We are looking at a big scope of collaboration, that's the level of discussions we are having today with the parties. I think in discussions like these, we don't want to pre-empt our talks.

"We've some confidentiality that we've discussed and we have to
respect that, but the discussions are quite intense," he said.

Earlier, Syed Zainal said Proton has lined up a series of products for the next five years including
electronics and engine power.

"We're developing on campo turbo which will be available by year-end or at the latest by early next year. That will be a feature in all our cars," he said.

After 25 years in operations, Syed Zainal said Proton was venturing into the international arena, with the
Geneva Motor Show being the first step forward and "we will build on from there".

Dr Mahathir, also present at the press conference, said a lot of changes have been made since his last visit to Lotus about six years ago.

He said Lotus had achieved a great deal of progress, both in actual
performance and in the ideas that have been put forth by the management. - Bernama

Lotus Elice & Elise SC

The Lotus Elise and Elise SC

The Elise is a driving experience like no other.

Few cars can match the delicacy and accuracy of the steering, throttle and brakes. Supremely light and engineered for strength, performance and driver enjoyment.

“Performance through lightweight” is key to the way that this accomplished car handles on the road and track. Sweeping lines and a pure connection between driver and machine ensure that it is a pleasure to drive and a memory to savour.

The 2009 Lotus Elise continues the tradition of refined motoring with a sublime sports car that handles and performs like a race car. The Elise has numerous improvements installed as standard equipment including a new Lotus Tire Pressure Monitoring System that provides instant warning if there is a puncture or if pressures fall below safe levels.

Other upgrades include a stylish new instrument display with a high-definition LCD message panel, clutter-reducing "hidden until lit" warning and shift lights and customizable display options. An alarm/immobilizer system is also incorporated with central locking functions into a new integrated ignition key design.

Proton Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing

Admin

Proton today launched a very special version of their Neo CPS – the Proton Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing. Priced at RM115k it has various equipment upgrades including an engine tune-up. Now producing 145 bhp and 168 Nm of torque, the engine is a substantial 25 bhp and 18 Nm up on the standard CPS. 0-100 km/h is now done in 9.2 seconds and top speed is 200 km/h, compared to 10.5 seconds and 190 km/h for the standard Neo CPS M/T.

RM115,000 is a lot of
money to pay for a Satria Neo, but this doubled price tag over the standard Neo CPS comes with much more than just a carbon fibre bonnet and Lotus Racing emblems. There’s some serious performance upgrades that should make it quite a hoot to drive, and these improvements are not just reflected in the vital stats.

More vital than these improved figures however are things like revised ratios for the five-speed gearbox. According to a source in R3, the Neo R3 Lotus Edition will rev till its 7500 rpm redline in EVERY gear, and all sorts of torque curve issues have been been banished. We look forward to a test drive to confirm this exciting revelation. When the head of the R3 department is one of the best drifters in the world, you can be sure that the division’s products are not just about power and acceleration. Handling is a big part of the equation, and bearing the “Lotus Racing” name means that this car has to deliver some thrills behind the wheel.

There’s some delicious sounding hardware in this car. First up are the Öhlins DFV (Dual Flow Valve) fully adjustable coil-over suspension with spring and damper rates specifically tuned for this application by R3. The Neo also gets stiffened rubber bushes and revised suspension geometry. All these are claimed to deliver “racecar-like direct steering input and cornering precision”. The saved weight from the carbon hood also means that there’s less weight over the front axle, which is good news. This car is 62 kg lighter than the standard Neo CPS at 1150 kg.

If you peek behind the 16-inch Advanti alloys wrapped with 205/45 Bridgestone Adrenalin rubber, you’ll spot the four-pot AP Racing calipers gripping the front discs. The rear discs make do with single pot items. Other than the engine tune-up, you also get R3 Titanium Exhaust Headers, R3 Alloy Underdrive Pulleys, an R3 Tuned Exhaust System, and an R3 Carbon Fiber Airbox. These equipment including R3-tuned camshaft profiles contribute towards the power upgrade.

R3 has plans to make 25 units of the Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing Edition. Our sources say that 11 units are already accounted for, and we reckon that Proton will have no problems selling off the remaining units. They will of course come up with a second batch if response and demand is sufficient.

There’s a whole load of more material after the jump including loads of hi-res product photos, track action photos and live photos from the car’s unveiling in Pavilion today.
